Why Indian Prime Minister wanted to be on Twitter

Twitter is a growing micro-blogging platform which currently has 645 million users and has 190 million unique visits every month. Because of this dynamism, even India’s Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi couldn’t avoid it. He is active since 2009, and has been tweeting during his stint as Gujarat’s Chief Minister and also as Prime Minister Electoral Candidate for BJP, during General Elections Campaign.

So what bring India’s Prime Minister to Twitter and to interact in this platform ?

We can actually analyze the twitter statistics and get an idea of the benefits Twitter provides him by staying in the platform.

1. Reach

Shri. Narendra Modi has 5,609,295 followers in his stay in Twitter of 5 years. If we calculate, we can say that on an average he has gained 2 followers per minute in these 5 years. This is the amount of reach that Twitter provides compared to other social media networks in such a short span of time.

2. Advantage of Tweets

Twitter has a restriction of 140 characters in a single tweet. This has a very strong advantage. An effective message can be strong, crisp, on target which can give a clear message to the followers. Shri. Narendra Modi has made 5,439 tweets. He has utilized this restriction to perfection, giving out tweets on special occasions, strategic visits, messages to people, festival wishes. These messages with the current follower base can be very effective in establishing faith, belonging and a strong connection among the people.

3. Managing the Real-Time Events

Most News Media channels are among his followers who are also the pioneers of real-time news reporting. This brings him in line with the speed of media, giving an advantage to give quick reactions to the national and global events.

4. Feedback – A medium of Brand Building

Twitter is gives an advantage to the users to give feedback to the consumer and service brands regarding products and service. This methodology is also applicable to politicians and ministers, as they are also providing service to people. Grievances coming from people can be selected and managed according to importance in further investigative models. This can be a very good platform for this Brand Building exercise.

5. Interacting with Global Leaders

Many Global Leaders such as Barrack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Dmitri Medvedev, and David Cameron are active on Twitter. This gives him a chance to interact with Global Leaders, giving out a message to the World. Any interaction between them is News for the media. This can be a perfect media for sending out strong positive message to people of interacting nations, hence building soft bonds through this platform.

Shri. Narendra Modi has interacted with people in Social Media platforms which helped in reaching out to his audience. We hope he continues to Tweet, for the development of the country and contributing to the World.
