Among the glitz and glamour of European and English Football Leagues, There is a new league coming up – Indian Super League. This is India’s star-studded football league which kicked off on Sunday with the opening game between Atletico De Kolkata and Mumbai City. This game was a thriller and was convincingly won by Atletico De Kolkata 3-0.
Indian Super League came into existence on the idea of making football a popular and top sport in India and to position India in higher ranks among the football playing nations. Indian Super League is also a franchise league like IPL, in which eight teams are created to participate in the league. This league has also made some players interested like Spain’s Luis Garcia & France’s Nicolas Anelka, come out of retirement.
The 8 Club Teams are-
STAR Sports, being a part of the founder group, is the official broadcaster ISL throughout India. Hero MotorCorp has also showed its interest and signed up for being Title Sponsor for this mega-football of India for 3 years.
Organizers & Franchisers are expecting a lot out of this tournament, along with millions of people/fans in India and across the globe. They believe this is a good platform to attract talent as the event grows with time. Cricketing great and owner of Atletico De Kolkata said, “It may not be Cricket but it will be the next big sport. Obviously they are not the current stars, this will happen over time. It’s the beginning of something.”
We also hope for the same and pray for the success of this league for this season and seasons to come.
