Drone technology is not new to us. Its application which starts from military use as unmanned aircraft to Robots as Projects in Science Universities has been known to people. But Amazon has come up with an interesting application of Drones in strengthening their Supply Chain.
Here we have – Amazon Prime Air, getting ready to revolutionize the home delivery system. This system bids for delivering the packages to customer in 30 minutes using their Drones.
This unmanned aircraft can travel at a speed of more than 50 miles per hour and having a load carrying capacity of 5 pounds. They believe that customers will love this system which ensures fast delivery at their door steps. Drones are expected to handle deliveries within a 10 mile radius from their local warehouses. The main catch is – “Delivery in 30 minutes”
Currently Amazon has reached out to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), asking permission to use drones for commercial purposes.
The FAA allows model aircraft makers and robotic hobbyists to fly drones, but commercial application is still at hold. Amazon wants to test out its drones in Amazon’s private property, away from residential area and airports, in the City of Seattle.
FAA has not responded to the request. But Amazon has a strong backing of latest technology drones and people’s interest as a back-up influence. It might take some time to see commercial drones flying in the air.
