Microsoft has also decided to get into wearable devices as the likes of Apple, Samsung. They are planning launch it in coming weeks. The gadget is learned to be a smart watch which passively track wearer’s heart beat rate and work along different mobile platforms. It also claims to have a more than 2 days of regular use battery life. This claim would position themselves ahead of Moto 360 and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smart watch.

How does the Watch tick?

Microsoft had its wearable project running which was a smart watch which relies on the expertise of its Kinect Division, which would allow sync this device with iPhones, Windows devices and Android Devices. They are yet to name as well as price the gadget.

Why Wearable Now?

This smart watch is the first venture into wearable devices category. This market is growing and expected to be $ 7.1 billion by 2015. Rather being an undiscovered territory, Microsoft wanted to be present there. ‘Cross Platform software application’ is the new mantra by the new CEO of Microsoft, brightest example being Microsoft Office which can run on iPad.

Is Wearable the Right Strategy?

Microsoft’s smart watch is a bit too late to enter in this category. But still they can contest on wearables, especially Apple & Samsung. Battery life is the cited to be one of the most important factors which are considered by customers. But this can also be questioned after Apple’s Watch announcement.

Microsoft can benefit from its Machine Learning experience through Microsoft Research, making a future business model for health-monitoring devices, which can be a possible future markets. They can think of making collaborations with enterprise customers, as well as heath care providers, advocating the importance of tracking the health parameters.

Microsoft’s Watch may tick or may not tick, but yes it has created a buzz in the wearable market, which is good enough to raise people’s curiosity.
